Sections
Your site's main navigation is powered by Sections in Breedpost. These sections define the structure and layout of your menu, helping you organize how visitors move through your site.
Note: Sections are set up for you during the initial site build. You only need to adjust them if you’re making changes to your main menu later on.
Single Section
Purpose: A container for a single page.
When to use it: Best suited for standalone pages like:
-
About
-
Blog
-
Contact
How it works: After creating a Single Section, you can assign one page to it. It appears as a single link in your main menu—clean and simple.
Multiple Section
Purpose: A Multiple Section creates a dropdown menu in your navigation and acts as a container for a group of related pages.
Use Case: Ideal for organizing collections of similar pages under one heading—for example:
- Our Dogs (dropdown)
- Males
- Females
- Retired
- Blog (dropdown)
- Training Tips
- Health Advice
- Success Stories
Best Practice: Use a Multiple Section when you have at least three related pages. If you only have two, a Single Section may provide a cleaner, simpler structure.
Example Navigation Setup
Here's how a typical site might use sections for a clear, user-friendly navigation:
- Home (Single Section)
- Our Dogs (Multiple Section)
- Males
- Females
- Retired
- Puppies (Multiple Section)
- Current Litters
- Upcoming Litters
- Past Litters
- Blog (Multiple Section)
- Training Tips
- Health Advice
- Success Stories
- Contact Us (Single Section with CTA)
Naming Your Sections Effectively
- Be clear and descriptive: Use names that clearly describe the content, like "Our Dogs" or "Contact Us".
- Avoid overly long names: Keep section names short and to the point.
- Use consistent formatting: Maintain consistent capitalization (e.g., "Our Dogs" instead of "our dogs").
- Match user expectations: Think about what your visitors are looking for and name sections accordingly.
Establishing your sections first creates a strong foundation for your navigation menu, making it easy to add and organize pages later.
