How to create a photo album

Creating photo albums in the gallery is a great way to showcase your dogs online.

Not only can you create unlimited photo albums in the gallery, nearly every page type has its own gallery built in.

For example, you can create a gallery on about, dog, article and rehoming pages. Litter pages have the option to publish multiple albums.

What is a photo album?

A Breedpost website photo gallery is a thumbnail list of photos with links that open up into a lightbox.

What is a lightbox?

A lightbox is a pop up window that displays the photos and their captions. You can also navigate to the next and previous photos without leaving the lightbox.

What are the advantages of using a lightbox?

Because a lightbox opens up in a pop up window, website visitors will remain on the page that they were viewing when the lightbox is closed.

This enables the visitor to return to their viewing context easily. This is especially useful on an individual dog page because visitors can continue viewing the dog’s information without having to navigate back to the page.

Do I need to format my photos to be optimised for the web?

Uploading photos into the Breedpost administration area is easy.

All you need to do is upload the best quality photo that you have. The system will automatically optimise the image to display on a web page.

This means there is no need for you to do any image formatting at all.

Your images will look great and be small enough in file size to make sure your page download time is fast for your visitors.

Our goals for image management in the Breedpost content management system are

  • to make it quick and easy for content managers to upload an image
  • to make it quick and easy for content managers to create photo galleries
  • to make sure images are web optimised by the system so content managers don’t have to worry about it

Creating an album in the gallery section

You can create unlimited photo albums in the gallery section and each album may have unlimited photos.

You could create themed albums such as puppies, dog shows, agility, obedience, fun photos, and more.

This video shows how easy and quick it is to set up an album in the gallery section.

Creating photo albums on dog, article and about pages

The dog, article and about pages all have a built in photo album.

All you need to do is upload the photos and add the captions.

How the galleries are displayed is dependent on the design that you have chosen. They all use a lightbox so visitors can remain on the page once they have finished viewing the album.

Creating litter albums

You can create multiple albums on litter pages.

This is a great way to publish albums by pup or by time period, say one week, two weeks etc, or even both.

Consider creating a new album every week to publish an historic archive of the litter. This would be a great way to engage your online audience and potential puppy buyers.

Having a detailed historic photo record of your litters on your website will improve your credibility and trustworthiness as a dog breeder.

Why website images are important for your dog breeder website and show dogs

Over the years internet connections and screen resolutions have improved. High quality photos can now be displayed on web pages without sacrificing download time and user experience.

Dog breeders and show dog exhibitors should be able to publish beautiful high quality photos for their visitors to enjoy.

Over the years I’ve worked on projects using images taken by professional photographers. You can create a great website design, but it’s really the photos that take it to the next level.

Phone cameras take really good photos and because they’re pretty much attached to you, you can snap dog photos at anytime.

Your website visitors want to view your dog photos and the more the better. So that’s why we’ve made it easy to upload photos and publish albums to encourage more imagery online of purebred dogs.
